Mato Jozak

Mato Jozak, born on April 23rd, 1940 in the village of Šesići near Travnik, emigrated to Australia in 1967. In early 1973, he returned to Europe and settled near Dusseldorf. He was last seen alive on November 27th, 1974. In the afternoon of that day, he visited the Industrieschranke inn in the small town of Neuss on the Rhine.

Six months later, his body was discovered in the Rhine, as German publicist Hans Peter Rullmann wrote:

“His legs were tied with wire, as were his hands. He was shot in the back of the head with cal. 7.65 mm bullets, and thrown into the river.”

After Jozak’s disappearance, the German police immediately suspected Ejub Dizdarević, the owner of the Industrieschranke inn. Upon learning of these suspicions, Dizdarević fled to Yugoslavia on December 22nd, 1974 and settled in Bihać, where the infamous Yugoslav UDBA awarded him with a managerial position in the Sunce motel on the Una River.

Ejub Dizdarević was registered at the UDBA headquarters in Bihać as an associate under the pseudonym “Luna”.
