The remains of at least nine persons were exhumed on the location “Jelenovac Forest” in the city of Zagreb. The Partisan communist army, upon entering Zagreb in 1945, used this forest for the liquidation of the Croatina civilians and soldiers.
On 10 and 11 September 2018, the Ministry of Croatian War Veterans conducted a field research, test excavation and exhumation on the location “Jelenovac Forest” in the city of Zagreb, based on the Law on Investigation, Arrangement and Maintenance of Military Cemeteries, Cemeteries of World War II and Post-War Victims.
Previously collected operational information of the competent interdepartmental services, as well as the test excavations, indicated the existence of a mass grave, which led to the exhumation of at least nine persons. liquidated by Tito’s Partisans. According to an already well established procedure, the remains were transferred to the Department of Forensic Medicine and Criminology of the Medical Faculty in Zagreb for professional processing.
In accordance with the previous announcement, the Ministry of Croatian War Veterans continues to carry out field activities. These activities include gathering data about the events of that time and the circumstances of victims’ deaths through field surveys and aerial surveys, and also through interviews with the primary and secondary witnesses.
